What is an SSCC pallet label and do I need one to ship to major retailers?
An SSCC (Serial Shipping Container Code) pallet label carries an 18-digit SSCC number in a GS1-128 barcode that identifies one specific pallet or container. It links the physical pallet to the EDI 856 Advance Ship Notice and the receiving warehouse management system. Most major retailers and distributors require an SSCC label on every inbound pallet, so if you ship to a large retail or grocery program you very likely need one. We produce SSCC labels in the standard GS1 format, with sequential serial numbers printed as variable data and every barcode verified to ANSI/ISO before the roll ships.

What is the difference between GS1-128 and SSCC labels?
GS1-128 is the barcode symbology, the encoding format. SSCC is a specific data standard, the 18-digit Serial Shipping Container Code, that is carried inside a GS1-128 barcode using Application Identifier (00). Every SSCC label uses a GS1-128 barcode, but GS1-128 can also encode a GTIN (01), batch or lot (10), expiration date (17), quantity, and ship-to postal code. Think of GS1-128 as the format and SSCC as one specific piece of data encoded in that format.
Do you make DOT-compliant hazmat labels for shipping chemicals or dangerous goods?
Yes. We produce DOT hazardous materials labels to 49 CFR specifications, including Class 1 through Class 9 hazmat diamond labels, ORM-D labels, and subsidiary risk labels. The face stocks and adhesives meet the durability requirements for domestic and international hazmat shipments. If you ship flammables, corrosives, or other regulated materials, send the classes you handle and we produce the required labels to spec.
How fast can you turn around shipping, carton, and pallet labels?
Standard turnaround is about two weeks from artwork approval. When press capacity allows, we run rush jobs at no extra charge, and reorders of a label we already have on file are often ready inside a week.
